Whilst I agree will most of the Lib Dems tax policies, their environmental taxes don’t make sense as they say their tax plans are tax neutral but how will that help the environment? To make the books balance they will require people to use their cars and airlines more, if the environmental taxes have the desired effect then there will be a shortfall in tax revenues, which will have to be filled somehow.
I think green taxation should be used on top of ordinary taxation otherwise its effectiveness will mean that there is a revenue shortfall. Increasing tax on cars and planes etc should be used to re-invest in public transport, which should be government, owned and run. Once there is a viable alternative to the car and plane then people will use public transport more and the environment will be improved.
