Middle East Arms Sales

I think the Americans are being a bit naive in thinking that selling arms to Iran’s enemies will keep Iran in check. This will only bolster Iran and it’s plans to build nuclear power plants and allegedly a nuclear bomb. Also didn't the Americans try this with Saddam in 1980s and it backfired then, whos to say the same wont happen again. How can you make peace with weapons surely the Americans should be trying to de-militarise the region not create an arms race. The only way that peace can be achieved in the region is if the Americans pressurise the Israelis into retreating to 1967 borders and dropping the term war on terror, as Gordon Brown said in Washington,  and what calling terrorists criminals, this will deny the terrorists the dignity of an enemy and casts them as criminals.
